We are going to Lewis Morris County Park in Morris Township, NJ, about 70 minutes/60 miles from Manhattan and Brooklyn. We will have a few groups, some who will  hike , some who will go on a nature walk and some who may go swimming at nearby Sunrise Lake in the park.  Everyone will join for an excellent catered kosher meal for all at 430/5pm! We will also have the ability for people to play volleyball, Frisbee and soccer.

Hiking – excellent moderate hike within the 2196 acre park. We haven't determined the exact routing, but it will be 5 to 7 miles. All are welcome as long as they can easily walk 7 miles. Here is a likely version of the hike we will be doing.

Nature Walk –We will also have a short 1 to 2 mile nature walk, which can be combined with optional swimming at the nearby beach at Lake Sunrise ( additional cost).

Swimming at Sunrise Lake Beach - There is a nice lake about a 15 minute walk from where we are meeting, but swimming is at an extra fee.

The cost is $13 for adults (16-64) , $11 per child (5—15) and under 5 is free, but you can save $1 a person if you order and pay online 24 hours in advance.

Here are the details about Sunrise Lake and here is the direct RSVP link to

 pay in advance for swimming

Fruit Picking—this will be nearby,  this year at the Wightman Farm, a 10 minute drive away. You need your own transportation to get there. We may  be able to arrange a limited amount of rides for people that have rides sorted to the event but we cant make any promises, so assume you wont be able to go fruit picking unless you have your own transportation.  According to the farm  peaches and nectarines  will still be in season.

All of the costs of Fruit Picking is extra.

Cost - $10 admission + $4 to $5 per lb for peaches/nectarines, depending on variety

REMINDER -  This is located a 10 minute drive away and requires your own transportation.

Limited rides – minivan solution

Because of the large numbers I expect for this event, rides will be limited and may not satisfy the demand. If there is enough interest, we might  organize people into 15 passenger vans, hopefully from a few areas. The ride will cost about $25 to $35 per person, for gas and the rental. If you are willing to be a driver of one of the rental vehicles, you will also get a reduced rate to the event. We might send a list of drivers with phone numbers out in advance, but if you need a ride, assume you will have to go in one of the vans or take the train option.

For those who do manage to get a ride, pay the driver $20 when you enter the car. They are doing you a favor, so please have the money available in cash.

Organized activities vs optional activities

There are some activities we will organize, others that you can do on your own with your own rentals or equipment, and then join us at Dinner

Here are some answers to common questions.

ARE FAMILIES WELCOME?

Yes—especially for the fruit picking .

WHAT KIND OF FOOD WILL YOU HAVE?

I supply stuff for vegetarians and meat eaters.  We will have a hot kosher dinner from a Chinese restaurant in Springfield NJ, Tokyo Hibatchi, which is under the Vaad Harabonim of MetroWest . There will be plenty of food for vegetarians. We will also have some ‘simpler items’ for those who like more basic food, like steamed vegetables and brown rice.

We will have snacks throughout. The food for these parts of the event are all items with the standard recognized hechsers such as OU, OK, etc. All . All of the equipment used is items that we use only for these types of events.

LET ME KNOW ON THE RSVP QUESTIONAIRE IF YOU HAVE ANY SPECIAL DIETARY RESTRICTIONS/ISSUES.

I AM A VEGETARIAN - WILL YOU HAVE ANYTHING FOR ME ?

Yes, we always have plenty for the vegetarians/vegans - some of the main dishes will be vegan.

WHAT IS YOUR LEVEL OF KASHRUT?

We buy all of the items with the standard recognized hechsers such as OU, OK, etc. All of the meat/chicken is purchased from local kosher markets such as Brachs in Queens, Glatt Mart, Costco, which now carries OU certified meats in many locations and other similar establishments.   The restaurant we are using is Tokyo Hibatchi, under the Vaad Harabonim of Metro West.  All other equipment used are my personal items or equipment that we use only for these types of events.

Is any of the produce you pick organic?

Some of the produce at this farm is certified organic – when you go to the farm they label certain areas as organic. Here is some info from Alstede and ask at the farm for more details…
