August Field Day!! Blueberries & Peaches, Hiking, Mill Tour & BBQ Sunday August 2, 2015 In Chester, NJ EARLY BIRD DEADLINE Midnight Sunday, July 26 EVENT RSVP DEADLINE NOON WEDNESDAY, JULY 29 We are going to Chester, NJ, about 70 minutes/60 miles from Manhattan and Brooklyn. We are meeting the historic Cooper Grist Mill, and having two groups, one for a tour of the mill and a hike and one for a tour of the mill, fruit picking, a visit to a 4H county fair. Everyone will join for an excellent BBQ for all at 4pm! We will also have the ability for people to play volleyball, Frisbee and soccer. Hiking – excellent moderate hike, partially along the beautiful Black River and visting the Black River Gorge, on the historic Patriots Path. We haven't determined the exact routing, but it will be 5 to 7 miles. All are welcome as long as they can easily walk 7 miles. Here is a likely version of the hike we will be doing. Fruit Picking—this will be nearby, at the Alstede Farm, which is 0.4 miles down the road. Right now, peaches should be at their peak, blueberries should still be available and you might be able to pick some vegetables as well. All of the costs of fruit picking are extra - You will get a 20% off voucher, which entitles you to get 20% of the admission prices for Allstede and in addition to paying admission, you will also have to pay for the fruit that you pick at Allstede. Note that they also charge admission for children above 2. Self Guided Tour of Historic Chester - Chester, a historic 200 hundred year old town a few miles away, has a free historic coach ride running every 10 minutes till 6 PM. In town, there are some nice shops and historic buildings to see...see the town’s website for more details Limited rides – minivan solution Because of the large numbers I expect for this event, rides will be limited and may not satisfy the demand. If there is enough interest, we might organize people into 15 passenger vans, hopefully from a few areas. The ride will cost about $25 to $35 per person, for gas and the rental. If you are willing to be a driver of one of the rental vehicles, you will also get a reduced rate to the event. We might send a list of drivers with phone numbers out in advance, but if you need a ride, assume you will have to go in one of the vans or take the train option. For those who do manage to get a ride, pay the driver $20 when you enter the car. They are doing you a favor, so please have the money available in cash. Organized activities vs optional activities There are some activities we will organize, others that you can do on your own with your own rentals or equipment, and then join us at the BBQ We will help organize folks into the following activities—please indicate your choices on the RSVP form ORGANIZED EVENT DETAILS Helping Out - As at all of my events, we ask everyone to assist with things at the event.
