ACTIVITIES

In Spring/Summer & Fall, there are things like boating, bike riding, hiking, and many more of the museums are open. In July and August, we also have the ability to go to concerts at Tanglewood, and other events at Jacob’s Pillow and other regional dance and music festivals.

In the Winter, there are weather dependent winter sports in the area such as Downhill & Cross Country Skiing (Jiminy Peak is nearby), snow boarding, snow tubing, snowmobiling (expensive), hiking, museums & other events for those not into outdoor activities.

There are wonderful museums such as a Norman Rockwell (everyone loves this one), MASS MOCA, a contemporary art museum, and the Clarke, as well as the Hancock Shaker Village, where they recreate shaker life from the 1800s.

In all seasons, we will also have movies at night, and maybe some karaoke! Let me know your interests & movie picks in the RSVP form.

Here is a recent article from the NY Times about local events and links to local attractions.

Here are links to Tanglewood, Jacobs Pillow & Shakespeare & Co.

We will organize people to go on hikes, museums, biking, and other activities. Let us know your preferences on the RSVP form.

Cooking Classes on Sunday and Monday

Many of you have asked me to teach a class on basic cooking and to explain how to make some of my more popular recipes. I have developed and synthesized various cooking techniques over the years in the course of making my events and meals, and I will teach you some of these things in these classes. These classes are designed for both beginners and folks with advanced skills, as we will do a bit of both! As long as boiling water doesn’t intimidate you, you will be fine…

Those coming to each of the classes will receive the following:

1. The RECIPES used during the class.

2. A "HOW TO GUIDE" with tips for making these recipes.

3. For the Art of Vegetarian Cooking -  A 'TIME LINE" that details the best ways to make multiple dishes at once and incorporate cooking more naturally into your demanding schedule, and ways to do some cooking in advance to make things simpler and easier.

4. An "EQUIPMENT & INGREDIENT GUIDE" that details what the minimum items and ingredients that you need to have on hand or purchase in order to start doing more cooking.

5. Samples of the food we are cooking.

I plan to provide a series of cooking classes on Sunday & Monday, August 28 & August 29.

Each class will be about 2.5 hrs long. The Sunday class will be either in the late morning or during the afternoon or possibly during the evening —depending on whether people who want to take the class also want to go to PM events and have the class, or people want the class as the activity during the PM—we will set this time closer to the event. The Monday class will be in the late morning ( aprox 10:30 to 1 PM) and we will be having lunch at the end of class.

Quinoa & Candy - Sunday, August 28

DESCRIPTION OF THE SHAKER MILL & PICTURES

The Mill is large, comfortable and cozy, on 4 floors with 17 bedrooms (4 to 6 single rooms, 10 to 12 doubles, and a few triples). Each bedroom has its own bathroom, and most rooms have double beds. Some folks will also be in two rooms in an adjoining building. The exact room configurations will depend on how many people we get…

The Mill has a dining room for 45, a huge kitchen, a beautiful large and airy SUN ROOM at the back where you can see a stream and WATERFALL. On the same floor there is a Study with an adjoining Living Room and a ROARING FIREPLACE between the two rooms. There is also a nice nature walk through woods nearby.
